ABOUT DOME PROJECT

IMG_5257.jpg

In today’s ever-changing world we would like to prioritize our learning model based on socio-emotional health and empathy that we feel are virtually impossible to nurture through a computer screen. We prefer to seek out a nurturing, creative, holistic, and adventurous way to educate our children and feel institutional protocols will ultimately limit this for our families. We believe in a logical, hands-on approach to confronting any challenges, adversity and illness. For these reasons, we will not be following AISD’s online or in-person curriculum and, instead, will be hiring two Mentors to create and facilitate an independent curriculum that leaves room for input from parents and is geared toward each individual.

The coming school year is changing before our eyes, but we still have time to adapt and to create a memorable and magical experience for our children during these unprecedented times.

At the Dome School, our children will have the amazing opportunity to participate in a project-based crossover curriculum with an emphasis on reading, writing, math, science, arts and culture with the added bonus of core focus on experiential learning in sustainability through hands-on experience... all in a dome, set in the woods, near a creek, on private property in Southeast Austin. We are the city’s first off-the-grid alternative learning experience!

ABOUT THE PROPERTY

The Dome School is located on 3.4 acres of private property at 6405 South Pleasant Valley Road in Austin, Texas. The children will walk a 150-yard path from the front of the property to the dome classroom situated in the forest.

The dome itself has been custom designed and will be arriving soon! It’s 26 feet high with mesh windows for airflow and enough space for a group of 15 to be comfortable. It has one regular door and one extra zip-up door for safety; it will have AC inside and a wood stove for heating in the winter. The bay window will make it feel like the dome is an extension of the forest. The deck will lay onto is 4-feet tall to add into that "treehouse" experience and has already been built!
